The circus is coming! … to today’s Geo Quiz. Things will be a little different the next time the circus comes to town. That holds true at least in the South American country we’re looking for today.

When traveling circuses arrive to Santa Cruz, Sucre or Cochabamba — there will be plenty of clowns and jugglers.

But from now on….no animals!

This Andean country is one of the first countries anywhere to ban all circus animals.

No more kneeling elephants, or tigers leaping thru rings of fire…no more stupid pet tricks.

The ban applies across the board:

“Lions, tigers, panthers, as well, mandrills, bears, brown bears especially, and domestic animals usually dogs are quite popular, horses, ponies, and cats household cats as well.”

This Latin American country of nine million isn’t fooling around. The new national law enacted by its Congress in La Paz says the use of animals in the circus is an act of cruelty.

We’ll hear more from an animal rights campaigner when we reveal the answer…

Geo Answer:
The answer to today’s Geo Quiz is Bolivia. Bolivia has a tough new national law that bans all animals, wild and domestic, in traveling circuses. Anchor Katy Clark speaks with animal rights campaigner (Animal Defenders International) Alexandra Cardenas about how Bolivia’s moving to prevent mistreatment and abuse of circus animals.
