Afghanistan is gearing up for nationwide elections later this month. It’s only the second time Afghans will select a president since the Taliban were ousted in 2001. There’s been a sharp rise in violence in the run-up to these elections. Still, with only two weeks until election day the campaign is in full swing. Britain’s last World War I veteran, Harry Patch, died recently at the age of 111. He will be buried tomorrow. British band Radiohead have written a song in honor of Patch. Seawater covers 71 percent of the planet. Fresh water is a much more precious commodity. So, a Brazilian environmental group has come up with a novel proposal for conserving clean water. SOS Mata Atlantica is urging people to urinate in the shower. Doing so could save households more than a thousand gallons of water a year in toilet flushes.
