Today’s Geo Quiz takes us to Barcelona. It’s Spain’s second largest city, after Madrid. But it has something the Spanish capital just can’t compete with beaches. There are several in the Catalan city by the Mediterranean.

We’re looking for the name of Barcelona’s most popular and crowded city beach. It’s just a short walk from a subway station by the same name. And there are lots of restaurants and nightclubs there too.

This beach – and the others in Barcelona – are very popular with tourists. That’s good for Barcelona’s economy. What some residents of Barcelona don’t like so much is when those tourists start wandering around the city in their skimpy swim-wear.

So, we asked you to name the most popular and crowded beach in the Spanish city of Barcelona. The answer is Barceloneta.

Lots of tourists go there to lounge by the sea. No problem there. What bothers some residents of Barcelona is that many visitors treat the whole city like a beach — walking around half-naked in bikinis and swim-trunks. But as The World’s Gerry Hadden reports, Barcelona has a law that gives people the right to go naked if they want to.
