peace For today’s Geo Quiz, we’re looking for a city in Hungary. Here’s the thing … it’s not terribly well-known. It’s small, with fewer than 60,000 people and its right along the Austrian border.

Today, the surrounding region is known for its wine — both red and white. And the city itself is now a destination for dental tourism.

Yes, you heard that right.

There are more than 300 dental clinics there and tourists come from all over for low cost treatment. But our interest in this place has to do with something that happened there 20 years ago today.

Something that in retrospect was so important that German President Angela Merkel stopped by today to thank the citizens of Hungary.

And that something was a picnic.

Any idea?


Geo Answer:
We were looking for a small city in Hungary, nestled very close to the border of Austria. That fact will become important in a minute. The clues we gave mentioned the wine and dental services this city is known for.

We also mentioned a picnic that took place there twenty years ago today. Well, the answer to our Geo Quiz is the Hungarian city of Sopron.
