The UN Security Council has unanimously adopted a resolution calling for nuclear disarmament, in a session chaired by President Barack Obama. An Afghan immigrant has been indicted by a grand jury in New York for alleged plotting to carry out bomb attacks on the United States. Najibullah Zazi, a airport shuttle driver, was detained last Saturday along with his father and another man. All three have maintained their innocence. An experimental HIV vaccine has for the first time cut the risk of infection, researchers say. They found that the vaccine reduced by nearly a third the risk of contracting HIV, the virus that leads to AIDS.
