praChcomptonsmallRapper praCh (rhymes with “batch”) Ly cut his first CD on a karaoke machine in his parents garage in Long Beach, California. The real story, though, is how he got to Long Beach in the first place. When he was small, his family managed to escape from Pol Pot’s Cambodia. Now, praCh’s got a new album, and his own record label. It’s clear that his experiences in both Cambodia and the United States have shaped his style, and his sound. Corey Takahashi took a drive with praCh around his old neighborhood.

Your interview was poignant and I am proud of you for telling your story. Most of America have no idea our government caused the killing fields in Cambodia. I recently met with another young Cambodian who has a organization in Long Beach called Khmer Girls in Action http://www.kgalb.org I think your generation has come of age and I wish only good karma for you both.

Rap on, PraCh! You rock…I mean rap. Your talent, hard work and amazing spirit make you a most fitting “troubador” and ambassador for Cambodia today. We’re so proud of you!

I can relate to Prach in that we are first generation refugees and now as a new light dawn on SoCal’s land, we are able to contribute to civil society with individualism.

I ,for one, like to think I am moving on a wave of American/Southeast Asian group of students, businessman, scholars, educators, you name it. And I feel that with our differences and background we are able to come together easier through awareness.

    Thank you, Prach!
