Finally, today, our Global Hit takes us to a violent region in south Asia. Kashmir is a predominantly Muslim state under the control of India. An insurgency against Indian rule there has left more than 47,000 people dead in the past 20 years.
And now, the insurgents have a song to fight by. It’s an unlikely theme for Kashmiri fighters. As the BBC’s Suvojit Bagchi tells us, the song appeared on a 1982 album by British singer Chris de Burgh.
