Geo Quiz

Small island nation

We’re head for the ocean with today’s Geo Quiz! We’re looking for a small island nation at the center of the Mediterranean Sea.

It’s also at the center of a news story today. A mysterious ship that disappeared in Swedish waters this summer docked there today. More on that in a moment.

First — a few more clues. The island lies at the narrowest point of the Mediterranean, in the strait between Tunisia in North Africa and Sicily in southern Europe.

The island also contains the largest natural harbor in the Mediterranean. It was used at different times by the navies of France and Britain. But for the longest time the island was home to the legendary Knights of St John.

The harbor is commanded by a gigantic fortress built by the Knights in the Middle Ages to keep out the Ottoman Turks. So where are we?

Geo Answer:
So before we go to break, we owe you the answer today’s Geo Quiz.

We asked you to tell us where the cargo ship at the centre of an international piracy mystery pulled into port today.

That’s is the Southern European Island of Malta.
