Vietnamese have a taste for wildlife. Hanoi restaurants serve such delicacies as snakes and monkeys. Now two environmental groups are hoping to change attitudes and discourage Vietnamese diners from indulging in wildlife cuisine. The World’s Mary Kay Magistad reports from Hanoi.

The Vietnamese who are eating exotic wildlife are rich and spoiled. They simply are showing off their wealth. Exotic foods are expensive and reserved for the very highest echelon of society. Since they can afford it, they must be part of that echelon. Their action is systematic of Vietnamese society, that is people like to showoff their wealth to their neighbors.

To discourage eating exotic wildlife, just label this as low class and uneducated. Vietnamese people are very sensitive to being labeled uneducated and low class.
