It’s a winter forecast for today’s Geo Quiz. Lots of places are battling with snow and frigid temperatures right now.
For example — heavy snowfalls in Poland and Romania have led to power blackouts. And Switzerland set a record low temperature of minus 25 Fahrenheit.
It’s not THAT cold in Beijing. And it’s not snowing in China’s capital. But it’s cold enough to make artificial snow there. Which is good news — because a winter festival is opening in Beijing tomorrow.
Organizers have brought in snow-making equipment. They’ve prepared snow mounds and mini-ski slopes for visitors.
What we want YOU to tell us is WHERE in Beijing is this snow festival taking place?
It’s a sporting facility.
A big one — that saw action during the 2008 Olympic Games.
… except for a Jackie Chan concert, a soccer match between two Italian teams, and an 8-day run of the opera “Turandot.”
It’s popular with Chinese tourists — though. They like to come and see THE symbol of the Beijing Games.
Organizers are hoping many more people will come to play in the 3 feet of snow that now cover the field and running track. By the way — about 25,000 cubic feet of water were needed to make the snow. This despite regular water shortages in Beijing.
