China has more than a little to do with today’s Geo Quiz. China exports catfish to the United States. And that hurts American catfish growers.
We’re looking for a state that’s been especially hard-hit. The so-called “Magnolia State” is the leading U.S. producer of catfish. In fact, it’s home to the World Catfish festival.
The state also grows lots of cotton and soybeans for the rest of the country. And it’s given us plenty of great delta blues…
We were looking for the “Magnolia State.” The answer is Mississippi…and, as we mentioned, it’s America’s leading producer of farm-raised catfish. But The World’s Jason Margolis reports that lately, Mississippi’s catfish industry has been swimming upstream.
