International efforts to help Haiti in the wake of Tuesday’s earthquake are picking up speed, as governments around the world and aid agencies mobilize search and rescue teams and aid supplies. While the full scale of the disaster has yet to emerge, it is clear it represents a huge challenge.
Here’s how you can help, but please be aware of fraud emails and websites. The FBI has released Haitian Earthquake Relief Fraud Alert. Please read before donating.

- American Red Cross
- Doctors Without Borders
- Telecoms Without Borders
- Care International

I would like to add Beyond Borders to the list of agencies that could use our help in the wake of this disaster. One reason is that they have been working in Haiti for decades and so know the country and its people well. The other is that they have four star–in other words top–rating from Charity Navigator, an organization that evaluates how efficiently charities use their money.
Thanks for your suggestion, Judith. Beyond Borders is on the list now.
Catholic Relief Services http://www.crs.org is one of the largest international humanitarian organizations based in the US. It has worked in Haiti for over 50 years and currently has a staff of over 300 in its program there. CRS is mounting a major relief effort. It should be on your list.
Thanks Michael, we’ve added CRS to our list.
What about “Food For The Poor”, they did much work in Haiti before the earthquake. They too can get food out to people in Haiti very quickly. Go to:

Please add AFSC, the American Friends Service Committee, to your list. They have been working in Haiti, and won the Nobel Prize for relief work after WWII.
Could you please add World Relief as well(www.WorldRelief.org)? We have been in Haiti for several years – http://worldrelief.org/Page.aspx?pid=1530, and currently have Disaster Response staff on the ground in Port-au-Prince. For the most up-to-date news on World Relief’s efforts in Haiti, please click: http://worldrelief.org/Page.aspx?pid=2364
Thanks!
Thanks for all the suggestions, we’ve added World Relief and the American Friends Service Committee to our list as well.
Please add Heifer International to your list. They also have been working in Haiti for a number of years. Thank you.
Heartily recommend Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) through the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).
You can be assured that monies donated here are almost entirely routed to the area in need; very little overhead due to the pre-existent presence of these organizations. MCC and MDS have stellar international reputations.
Correction: go directly to Mennonite Central Committee’s website mcc.org
They have staff on the ground for many years. Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) responds to disasters domestically only. Thank you.
Please add Mennonite Central Committee https://donate.mcc.org/project/haiti-earthquake to your list of organizations raising support for Haiti. MCC has been active in Haiti for many years and is mounting a significant immediate and long-term response effort and should also be on your list. Thank you.
I understand it may take up to 90 days before the money is recived by the charitable organization. my suggestion is that the commercial banks should have a Haiti relief account where customers of the bank send a text message giving last 4 digits of their account and haiti as prefix so that more than TEN dollars can be donated. I hope Mobileactive.com will take this up with Secretary of trasurey so that a Federal government directive is issued to all banks in usa; similar arrangents can be done in many other counties so that relief is MADE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE before it is too late.
Hospital Albert Schweitzer – http://www.friendsofhas.org and
Church World Service – http://www.churchworldservice.org
should both be on your list.
Thank you.
