For today’s Geo Quiz it’s a question of whether to light up or butt out. We want to know which Nordic country is getting tough on smokers.
It’s anti-tobacco laws are being tightened.
There’ll be new restrictions on smoking in cars, and stores will be banned from having cigarettes on display. Here’s a couple of clues to lead you to the non-smoking section.
It is bordered by Sweden on the west, Norway on the north and Russia on the east. This country used to highest death rates from heart disease in the world in the 1970′s. But it has turned that around is working to get its residents healthy.
And now the government is taking a hard line against tobacco.
Here in the US, Congress has not attempted to enact any nationwide federal smoking ban. Now the government of Finland has, in its own words, declared war on the tobacco industry.
They want to stop everyone smoking. Anti-tobacco laws are being tightened, and there’ll be new restrictions on smoking in cars, and shops will be banned from having cigarettes on display. The BBC’s Paul Henley, reports from Helsinki.
