We’re looking for a city in south-western Sweden for today’s Geo Quiz. It’s on the banks of a river — known for its waterfalls and canals. But what this city is really known for is Saab.

The city is home to the Swedish car maker. The company faces an uncertain future. It’s owned by General Motors.

But GM is planning to shut Saab down if it can’t find a buyer. That’s enough to put people in this Swedish city on edge. Whatever happens — they’ll always have their Saab Museum. The very first Saab — built in 1947 — is on display there.

It was designed by aviation experts to look a bit like an airplane wing. Name the city — we’ll tell you more about the museum….

Time may be running out on Saab. The Swedish carmaker is owned by General Motors.

And GM says it either sells Saab — or shuts the company down. GM set today as the deadline to find a buyer. It’s not yet clear if last-ditch efforts by European bidders can buy Saab more time.

Peter Beckstrom is keeping a close eye on what happens. He’s director of the Saab Automobile Museum in Sweden.

Peter — where is your museum?

Trollhattan, Sweden is the answer to our Geo Quiz in south west Sweden near the coast of the North Sea.

For those of us who are SAAB enthusiasts, Trollhattan and the SAAB Museum are our meccas, requiring a visit at least once in our lives. Peter Backstrom, as one might expect, is incredibly knowledgeable of the marque and its history. Moreover, he is a vintage SAAB racer and a marvelously gracious host. If GM fails to negotiate a sale in good faith to a buyer who will sustain SAAB, there are thousands of current owners who have pledged to never buy or rent another GM product (I know, hardly a drop in the bailout bucket….).
