Marco Werman closed out today’s show by introducing the Benin artist’s cover of Santana’s classic, “Samba Pa Ti.” But Mr. Werman very incorrectly stated that no lyrics had ever been written for the song, till now. AL CONTRARIO! Jose Feliciano did a beautiful version of the song back in the early ’80′s. Carlos played the electric guitar on that version, while Jose sang his own lyrics and played the acoustic guitar. I usually don’t like remakes, especially when the original is a work of perfection. But this one was very good.

A fan of The World’s usually excellent coverage, I found the timing of two of your stories this evening in extremely poor taste. Following a well researched and powerful story about the ravages of alcoholism in Russia, the breezy coverage about the joys of expensive whisky was insensitive. The forced references to “responsible drinking” only reinforced the inappropriate nature of the pairing.

Thank you for a job that usually goes above and beyond.
