Traveling the globe is a great way to expand your food horizons. Just look at this Wikipedia pic, which was taken by Kilroy238: candied fruit for sale on the streets of Tianjin, China.  So, in this episode of Talking Travel, we start with the question: what’s the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten while traveling? Robert Reid and Tom Hall from Lonely Planet weigh in with “duck embryo” and “guinea pig” respectively. Yes, leaving your culinary comfort zone can expand your mind and your stomach, and potentially challenge both your digestion and your ethics. Take a listen to our podcast, and then share your own foodie adventure below in the comments!

I’ve ate several strange foods: guinea pig, dog, crickets, silk worms, horse, tapir, pig’s stomach, pig’s ears, jellyfish, puffer fish, and lamb’s lungs, but by far the strangest tasting was armadillo.

I was offered goat intestine from a road-side stall by a Kenyan I was working with. He was very surprised and pleased when I plunged in. It’s very gritty and rubbery!

Coming from a hunting family who’s rule was we eat what we kill, I’ve eaten everything from javelina (wild boar) to moose to rattlesnake to unfortunately once a ram’s eye. The worst by far, however, was mentioned in the podcast- a fertilized egg in the Philippines. I’m sure it had little pre-feather fuzz! Oh, the things we do to be polite.
