From the bean to the barista, coffee is big business. People have been drinking coffee since at least the 15th century, when it was consumed in Sufi monasteries in Yemen. From there, coffee spread throughout the Middle East, then on to Italy, Europe, and the Americas. Today, coffee beans are one of the most traded agricultural commodities in the world. An estimated 117 million bags are produced each year. Starbucks has more than 16,000 stores in 49 countries.

On this edition of The World’s Global Economy podcast, we look at the coffee business in Venezuela, Colombia, and Taiwan. Guess which country drinks the most coffee per capita?
