The songs of Townes van Zandt have been covered by everyone from Emmylou Harris to Steve Earle from Willie Nelson to Norah Jones. Now, Israeli singer David Broza has turned some of Townes Van Zandt’s poems into songs.

That’s “Long Ball Hitter.”

It’s from David Broza’s new album, “Night Dawn: The Unpublished Poetry of Townes Van Zandt.” Broza first met Van Zandt at a Writers in the Round concert in Houston in 1994. Broza already knew a lot about Van Zandt. But he says Van Zandt knew little about him.
