It’s been an amazing month of soccer in South Africa. The 2010 World Cup is reaching its climax, with four teams left vying for two spots in the finals. Uruguay are set to take on The Netherlands, and Spain will face Germany. But while South Africa’s national team was eliminated in group play, many say the real winner is the host nation itself. Sure, you may be sick of the vuvuzela by now, but there is no denying that South Africa has been a gracious and welcoming host. So, it seems like a good time to take stock of what the World Cup might mean for tourism in South Africa in the longer-term. Lonely Planet’s Tom Hall is on hand to help us do just that. Well, there is also some blubbering about bad officiating, but that’s to be expected we think.
