MARCO WERMAN: Now if that story was up your alley, here’s a related news flash for you. A court in Dusseldorf, Germany, has just banned beer bikes. I understand not everyone’s familiar with beer bikes, so let me tell you about them. Beer bikes are like, well, bars on wheels. You and up to 21 friends hop on stools on the sides, and pedal. A bartender in the middle serves up the alcohol, while a totally sober driver steers the merry bunch through city streets. It kind of makes you wonder who came up with the idea in the first place. But the beer bikes are popular for bachelor parties and the like. They exist in several cities around the globe. In Germany, business is good for the beer bike, but that may not be for long. The court in Dusseldorf banned them because they encourage raucous behavior. Surprise, surprise. And because of the danger that beer glasses and people could fall onto the street. The ruling applies only to Dusseldorf. But it could give other German cities the legal precedent to issue their own beer bike bans in the near future.
