The United Nations says Laurent Gbagbo of Ivory Coast lost his country’s presidential vote in November but he and his supporters have refused to accept that result. On Friday UN chief Ban Ki Moon said Gbabgo’s attempts to hold on to power must “not be allowed to stand.” Since the vote, violence has erupted as Gbagbo’s supporters clash with those of Alassane Ouattara, the man observers say actually won the presidential election.
