What are your top picks for the best international albums of 2010?Tell us about your selection here.

Even those who don’t know Latin jazz tend to know Tito Puente. He is not known as “The King of Mambo” for nothing. His music has appeared in many films, most notably, perhaps, “The Mambo Kings.” Tom Schnabel gives us a refresher on Puente’s roots and looks at a new release of his music. Download MP3

I would have to say Rodrigo Y Gabriela’s album, “11:11,” is one of the best international albums of 2010 and perhaps on of the greatest of the decade.
These two make a universally rocking sound I believe many music lovers around the world can enjoy.

Love the program, keep it up!

A California band, but widely varied international music and musicians from U.S., France, Serbia. Fascinating variety of instruments, energetic musicians–these folks need to be widely discovered, world-wide.

My pick? Janelle Monáe’s The Archandroid, without a doubt.

David Bowie met James Brown and birthed this talented young lady. Her CD is not to be heard – it’s to be experienced.

    Otra Cosas by Julieta Venegas.

Issa Juma, “World Defeats the Grandfathers.” East African rumba of the 1980s, collected and rereleased in 2010. A superb recording of deeply satisfying, melodious, guitar-rich music.

It’s finally arrived and finds our favourite sonic explorers scaling new heights of ****-magicness. ‘The Wants’ is nine tracks long, as perplexing and exhilarating as we’ve all come to expect and is bound, we’re sure, to cement their reputation as one of the most inventive acts making music today. Here’s the tracklisting…
