A new agency at the United Nations aims to promote equality and women’s rights. Today there was a vote to decide which countries would have a seat on the board. The surprise list of the board members included Saudi Arabia, Libya and Congo. Iran did not make the cut. Struggling to store drug evidence in Colombia

Authorities in Colombia have been fighting a vigorous, and effective, battle against drug traffickers. In the process, police have confiscated thousands of assets for use as evidence in court cases. So many of the items are stored in government-owned warehouses. But John Otis reports from Bogota that keeping track of everything has proved impossible. Last year China overtook the United States as the world’s biggest car market, buying 13.6 million vehicles in 2009. Chinese car producers are also exporting cars to developing countries and now they are starting to make inroads into the lucrative European market.
