Ten years ago today, two al-Qaeda operatives steered a small boat alongside the USS Cole – an American naval destroyer that was refueling in the port of Aden, Yemen. The first man to be freed from the San Jose mine in northern Chile is expected to reach the surface later today, Mining Minister Golborne says. He said the rescue operation could begin in the “last quarter of the day”, once final safety tests had been carried out. 33 men were trapped in the mine since August 5.
