Hans Baldung Grien 'Witches' (1508)

We’re looking for a European country where a new tax is causing a stir. It targets some self-employed workers who didn’t pay taxes in the past. These includes astrologers, fortune tellers and witches. And they’re not happy about a tax on their ancient arts.

One threatened to put a curse on the government of President Traian Basescu. Another hurled a poisonous mandrake into the Danube River today to cast an anti-tax spell. So where is this tax revolt going down?

Geo Answer:

The answer is Romania where a new tax law has raised the ire of traditional fortune tellers and witches. As Bucharest based AP reporter Alison Mutler tells anchor Lisa Mullins, a group of witches is threatening to cast a curse on Romania’s government.
