    Dear Mary Kay,

This is an excellent story on China’s role in the illegal timber trade. I wanted to let you know that the organization for which I work, Environmental Investigation Agency (cited in your story), has been doing more recent investigations in China. We most recently uncovered direct links between Chinese traders and the leader of Madagascar’s current ruling junta, Andry Rajoelina, in relation to trade in illegally harvested precious woods. Our website (eia-global.org) contains the results of this (ongoing) investigation.

Please do not hesitate to contact me or my colleague Alexander (Sascha) von Bismarck at +1 202 483 6621 or the email address provided here if you’re interested in following up on this story. This issue is only going to achieve greater prominence in the next year or two with new laws in various countries, and court cases based on them.

    best regards,
