The New Egyptian Flag

I went out to the American University in Cairo campus on the outskirts of town the other day to speak with AUC historian, Khaled Fahmy. An Egyptian flag hangs in Fahmy’s office window, which is a pretty big deal. “I wrote a book against nationalism,” Fahmy told me. “I never carried the flag, and I would look down on people who did carry the flag.” Here is some audio from our conversation, where Fahmy talks about how his feelings toward Egypt’s national flag have completely changed since the revolution.
