The Irish government's treatment of its soldiers who fought for the Allies in the second world war is a disgrace. I speak as a died-in-the-wool Celt whose father came from County Galway and whose sons proudly served against the Axis. My uncle Joseph McLaughlin, every one of whose forbears came from County Kerry, was a pilot in the RAF during the Battle of Britain and was shot down on his first bombing run over occupied France. He was cited by the King of England and we still have the medals to prove it. The only parallel, inexact as it may be, was Stalin's slaughter of Russian soldiers returning from captivity for not perishing for the homeland. For its epic shortsightedness and stupidity in this matter, I say to the Irish government, shame, shame, shame.

Sincerely,
James Patrick McGrath

Born and raised in Ireland and having a Great Grandfather who ran away from Seminary to fight in the British army during the First World war, this sickens me to my stomach. The Irish Government are "considering" a pardon? What's to consider, pardon and financial restitution asap.
