Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s interview with Barbara Walters led our show Wednesday simply because it’s so rare to hear him speak and in English.

To deconstruct the interview for us, we contacted Andrew Tabler. He’s a fellow at The Washington Institute with extensive experience in Syria under Bashar Assad.

He’s also the author of “In the Lion’s Den: An Eyewitness Account of Washington’s Battle with Syria.”

This man is more dangerous now than at any time so far.  His disconnect from the reality of his position as leader of the army is chilling.  He has given himself total immunity from the systematic killing of his own people through a consuming self delusion.  He does not even look like he is lying. Syria is staring down the double barrels of leader who has lost his mind.  As leaders go he shows the signs of one who is descending toward genocide: Hiltler, Milosovic, Habyarimana, Pol Pot, and Karadzic.
