Mexico’s Baluarte Bridge Tallest Cable-Stayed Bridge in the World

El Puente Baluarte is how Mexicans refer to their latest monumental infrastructure project.

Technically, it is a cable bridge. It is 1,321 feet tall and spans a deep ravine in northwest Mexico.

It is said to be so tall that the Eiffel Tower would easily fit under its span.

This bridge will provide drivers with a short cut through the jagged peaks of the Sierra Madre mountains.

The Baluarte Bridge is right on the boundary between two Mexican states and for the Geo Quiz we are looking for the names of those two states.

One of them has a coastline along the Gulf of California and the other is famous for its scorpions.

The answers to the Geo Quiz are the Mexican states of Sinaloa and Durango.

They are linked by Mexico’s new Baluarte Bridge that was inaugurated Friday. It is said to be the world’s tallest cable-stayed bridge.

    Este es el puente de cable más grande en el mundo: ¡Que chévere!
    El video del artículo es muy interesante. El hombre dice que el puente es <>. También, el dice que El Puente Baluarte es un emblema del futuro que queremos para Mexico. El puente va a ayudar el turismo, la industria, y el comercio internacional. La construcción del puente es muy positiva para Mexico. Ademas, el video de la vista aérea es un poco aterrador porque no me gusta la altura. El Puente Baluarte es muy útil, pero no me gustaría caminar por el puente.

    This bridge is amazing! I think that cable bridges are not the most popular thing today or maybe its just me. I also think the fact that the Eiffel Tower would fit under it with no problem is beyond words. I would be deathly afraid to cross this bridge because I dislike heights. I would however ike to see it in person one day.

    I think its amazing how the Mexicans bridge, El Puente Baluarte can fit the Eiffel Tower underits span. Its amazing that this bridge is the tallest cable bridge in the world. The fact that the bridge is so high up would have me freaking out, i can barley get over the newport bridge without getting scared. its amazing to know people actually built the bridge. I would like to see more pictures of that bridge, but i’d never want to visit it because i’d be too scared.

    El Puente Baluarte is so cool, but scary at the same time. I’ve never even heard of a bridge so big that the Eiffel Tower could fit in its span. Its cool that this is the highest cable bridge in the world, but its so scary. It’s so high up and its all rocks underneath you, I think I’d be scared to drive on it because if it broke, you would most likely die. I think its alot more scarier than regular bridges that go over the water.

    ¡Qué interesante! Es asombroso que esto es 1,321 metros. Esta es una buena manera para que los conductores a conducir a través de las montañas de Sierra Madre y le da una impresionante vista al mismo tiempo. La vista desde arriba es espectacular. ¡Lo que es un paisaje fascinante! Yo estaría muy asustada para conducir este puente, pero creo que sería impresionante también.

    My grandmother sends me emails of various things, one of which was a bunch of bridges like the top largest and longest and most beautiful. I really enjoyed looking at them just as I did with this one. It’s quite baffling to think of how much time, effort, people, material, and courage goes into building such monumental structures. Going over them while driving doesn’t bother me much but I bet peering over the edge would send chills from nervousness. The fact that the Eiffel Tower would easily fit under it is crazy.

    Este articulo me recuerda de los calles por las montañas en Arizona. Mi familia y yo viajamos a Arizona el verano pasado, y cuando manejemos por las montanas para visitar otros lugares en Arizona (por ejemplo, el cañón grande) teníamos miedo porque los calles son muy estrechos. No había ninguna pared entre la calle y el acantilado. Es similar a la descripción del espinazo del diablo en México. El bridge nuevo, El puente Baluarte, va a permitir personas a manejar por las montañas sin usando las calles peligrosas. También, el presidente y otras personas importantes dijeron que el puente es un símbolo para el futuro y la prosperidad de México, y va a ayudar el comercio y la industria de México. Era muy cara, pero a pesar de que, pienso que los beneficios son grandísimos.

    Pienso que el puente es muy asustadizo.  No me gusta viajando encima el puente de Newport, y es una tercera en altura! La idea de un puente de cables no es atractivo. Pero, si el puente es bien para los ciudadanos de Mexico, es un buen adicion de la geografia de la pais. Esperanzadamente, la cuesta por el puente es bien gastado.

    puente es muy interesante.  Pienso
    que el Puente va a ayudar al turismo, la economía, y la popularidad de México
    porque la gente de otros países querrá ver el puente nuevo.  Es loco que el Eiffel Tower puede ser bajo del
    puente.  Cuando el puente está terminado,
    quiero verlo.  Pero, si yo voy a conducir
    en este puente, tendré miedo.  Este
    puente es interesante pero al mismo tiempo es loco.

    Puentes siempre me dieron miedo pero este puente es muy interesante! Yo siempre pienso que Mexico es un pais muy tercer mundista y atrasado comparado a los Estados Unidos y otros paises pero este puente sera algo revolucionario para la ciudad! El Puente Baluarte sera algo bueno para la economia y turismo. Eso es algo que Mexico necesita mejorar y lo puede complitar con con esta invencion.

    wow! No puedo creer que este puente este tan alto que la torre eiffel pueda caber debajo de este puente. Yo creo que este puente va a ayudar muchisimo a Mexico, pues los camiones que transportan productos podran llegar mas rapido a sus destinos. La verdad no se si podria manejar en ese puente, pues es tan alto, y a mi me dan miedo las alturas, aunque es una cosa muy interesante, pues es un puente sujeto por cables de acero (si no me equivoco)! Ademas es el puente de cables mas alto del mundo.

    I’ve driven the “old” road from Durango to Mazatlan… this new road with bridges and tunnels should make a huge difference!
