When I am drawn to read an article with a headline such as 'Poor Economy
and Controversial Government Driving Hungarians Out of Country', I
would at the very least expect to find some numbers to back up the
claim.

I just about had it with the hypocritical world media. I listen to World whenever I have a chance, and I am very disappointed that you too, joined the chorus of Hungary bashers.

Hand wringing about the alleged attack on democracy by the Orban Government. What nonsense and double standard.

Where were your with your concerns when the Gyurcsany government was in power.
On October 23rd 2006 the police provoked and attacked a peacefully celebrating crowd, brutally beating , tear gassing, shooting with rubber bullets, even by-standards.
Many innocent people were dragged away to jail.
It was an obvious demonstration of government power. They wanted to warn the Hungarian populace what to expect if they dare to complain, and demonstrate.

The liberal government in power for 8 years (2002-10) was a slavish partner to the foreign banks and foreign interest. I gather that is the reason Hungary was not criticized.
They hocked the nation to the hilt and left the horrendous debt to be dealt with by the Orban government. Orban is standing up to the IMF and the EU representing the interest of his country. He is backed by a two third majority in parlament. he is doing the job he was elected for. He is supported by the majority of the population, as it was proven by the largest pro-government demonstration in Budapest last Saturday. (see "Peace March for Hungary")

Next time you report on Hungary please try for a more balanced view, and dig deeper for the truth.
