Forced to think about it, I have to admit I'm in between the two. The lack of challenge in my own work environment at the station, coupled with my undying love of public radio programs, led me to gravitate to your newsroom for mental stimulation, as you know. So that in itself speaks volumes about my need to be around other humans in the throes of a creative process - and a front of the newsroom kinda gal. Having said that, I found when working on my thesis - and subsequently with other writing projects - that, while I don't need to be cloistered away to write per se, I do need somewhere relatively solitary in order to do the THINKING necessary to construct a more considered piece. For that I'd need the back of the newsroom or beyond. In Stratford-upon-Avon and the writing about theatre, my substitutes for The World are 1) the pub for the daily hubbub of greasepaint and 2) the Shakespeare Institute library where it's quiet but where there are people around I can talk to should I not be able to cope with the solitude.
