The British town of Smethwick is honoring Malcolm X, who died 47 years ago Tuesday.

The American black activist visited Smethwick just nice days before his assassination and he helped defuse racial tensions there.

Anchor Lisa Mullins speaks with Jak Beula who heads the trust that commissioned the plaque commemorating Malcolm X’s visit.

Malcolm. One of the great Spiritual leaders in history.
What impressed me greatly about Malcolm was his integrity with regards to his moral beliefs and convictions. Even his enemies within the US Government at the F.B.I and C.I.A admitted that they could not find any dirt on Malcolm. The phone taps and spies delivered no dirt on Malcolm because he was clean and practiced what he preached.
His integrity is something all human beings should be impreseed by. Be they Muslim, Christian, Jewish athiest or agnostic.
I Produced/Directed the documantary ‘Malcolm X a Day In Smethwick’ back in 2004 to coincide with the 40 anniversary of Malcolms visit to Marshall St on Feb 12th 1965. I was suprised that his visit was largely forgotten and and wanted to commemorate this important day in history. I always said that Smethwick should honor Malcolm with a Plaque. So i was very happy when Malcom was finally honored.
Thank you Jack Beula and the Nubian Jak community.
