The funny thing about democracy is that it is never about human rights, its is alway been and alway will be about which family get to be the top dog. the world is run by rich and powerful families. and no amount if election and defeat that. point of fact. the same problem in Pakistan is the same as in Philippine. no quality drinking water, brown out when it comes to electricity, and of course corruption, corruption, corruption, now if these 2 country have real large amount of natural resource that the west can exploit, that would be a different story. but hey every one think that they can be like japan if they have a educated population, ya dream on!
