“Song From the Uproar” is a new multimedia opera about an extraordinary woman.

Isabelle Eberhardt
She dressed as a man to be able to travel freely and ended up converting to Islam and joined a Sufi sect. Eberhardt was also an aspiring writer and left behind several journals about her travels.
“Song from the Uproar,” which premieres Friday in New York, is inspired by those journals. The opera is the brainchild of New York composer Missy Mazzoli, who worked on it with filmmaker Stephen Taylor.
Anchor Lisa Mullins speaks with Mazzoli about the short yet extraordinary life of Isabelle Eberhardt.
“Song from the Uproar” is being presented at The Kitchen in New York City, on February 24 & 25, and March 2 & 3
Composed by Missy Mazzoli
