Janka Nabay is known in his native Sierra Leone as the Bubu King.

Bubu is a kind of high-energy music.

Nabay fled the aftermath of Sierra Leone’s civil war and he is now in the US, with a new band, playing the music from home.

Mirissa Neff has his story.

Schedule: Janka Nabay and the Bubu Gang at SXSW.

I love true musicians and true artists like this guy. It’s all about the music. “Peace and love” is *not* a term that should be disparaged as unrealistic/liberally idealistic as it is by conservatives (and accepted as something to not be associated with unconditionally via our mass media)
