London’s Gold Rush

It didn’t look like much. It was dull, pockmarked and a little bit lumpy. And boy, was it heavy, perhaps close to 20 pounds.

What’s more significant is how much it was worth.

According to David Merry of Goldsmith’s, the ages old London company that trades in precious metals, the bar I was holding was worth as much as $127,000.

Mr. Merry is a charming man, full of facts about the history of the handling of gold, silver, and platinum.

While he is more than willing to share his time, the gold was another story.

He gently lifted it out of my grasp and stored it safely away.

You can meet David Merry below, and hear him talk about the gold rush in London.
