Grande Riviere, Trinidad, is the world’s densest nesting area for endangered leatherback turtles.

It is a protected area, but Sunday, thousands of turtle eggs were crushed there.

A government crew rolled over them with a bulldozer as they attempted to redirect a river that threatened the site.

Anchor Lisa Mullins talks to Stephen Broadbridge, who runs tours to the affected beach and has seen the damage.

I wonder why they had to redirect the river and what was in the river’s way if not redirected?  It was probably threatening to ruin someone’s golf game…  Poor turtles!!!

the river was destroying further nesting site, houses and hotels there the river course had to be redirected but this should have happened and dwelt with long before otherwise the turtle deaths would have been minimal
