It has been quite a year for the Russian opposition. There have been record-breaking demonstrations and they continue this summer.

In spite of new, tough anti-protest rules, some members of the Russian opposition are planning a nationwide demonstration at the end of the month. There is also now a new soundtrack to this revolution, a collection of tracks donated by musicians and artists who have rallied with the opposition.

The album is called “White Album” and contains more than 200 songs. Its title refers to the Beatles’ 1968 opus that carried songs like “Back in the USSR.”

The Russian “White Album” is the brainchild of Vasily Shumov, a music producer and Artemy Troitsky, a well-known music journalist. Both Shumov and Troitsky appear in the songs.

I followed the link, listened to some of the songs, but I cannot figure out how to save the files on my computer. Did you mean something else by “download”  or is it my poor command of the Russian tongue that’s causing me difficulties?

I’ve gotten as far as locating the albums as zip files, but without some hints from a russophone, there will be a lot of trial and error.

PRI should translate the link from Russian before recommending it  ; )

      Скачать диск

which is located underneath two large columns with lists of songs.  Make
sure that your settings allow certain russian websites to work.  You
will have to enter in a series of numbers (security question), then
click on the green tab.  After that, click on this link:  http://narod.ru/disk/53802363001.8cdfbbeddaa0316975702c8ec1557f5d/disc3_.zip.html
You should then be able to save a large zip file to your own hard
drive.  I just guessed at certain phrases, or word placement on the
website, and then translated them using a “Translator” on my Mozilla
Firefox (http://oryte.com – Easy Translate Text)

My bad, there are 6 separate columns.  Two, on top of two, on top on two, on the page, representing the 6 separate discs.  Just be sure to uncheck the box located under the download link, or you’ll get spam or sign up for something unknowingly
