Album cover of "White Album."
It has been quite a year for the Russian opposition. There have been record-breaking demonstrations and they continue this summer.
In spite of new, tough anti-protest rules, some members of the Russian opposition are planning a nationwide demonstration at the end of the month. There is also now a new soundtrack to this revolution, a collection of tracks donated by musicians and artists who have rallied with the opposition.
The album is called “White Album” and contains more than 200 songs. Its title refers to the Beatles’ 1968 opus that carried songs like “Back in the USSR.”
The Russian “White Album” is the brainchild of Vasily Shumov, a music producer and Artemy Troitsky, a well-known music journalist. Both Shumov and Troitsky appear in the songs.
