New Rules for Dublin Buskers

Here’s something that may evoke strong emotions: buskers or street musicians who play the same song every morning on your way to work.

Maybe you like it, maybe you don’t.

But city officials in Dublin, Ireland require that anyone busking on the streets has to be able to play at least 20 songs.

They also can’t monopolize the same corner.

Gabriel Caetano and Philomena Murphy make their living as buskers in Dublin and they don’t seem to mind the new rules.

Murphy says that even she gets sick of hearing the same song over and over.

If YOU pass by a busker regularly, we want to know about your favorite OR most despised song you hear.

Add yours in the comments below and we’ll compile a global busking playlist.

Years ago I would make an at least annual trip to Montreal and there was a guy at the Berri-UQAM station on the Longueuil line who I think only ever sang “Stairway to Heaven”. It always struck me as a wise strategy because the song is so long that you would never be in the station long enough to hear the whole thing.

I can’t quite make out what song they’re playing at the end. Any help?
