great story!

I think the second world war had a somewhat similar effect on mainstream Americans who got to know, like and accept the children of Italian, Polish, Jewish and other immigrants (etc.) while serving with them in the war effort.

I wonder what is going on in today's US military? Does military service promote more inter-ethnic acceptance or less?

Terrific story on the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam today on The World on NPR. Great to discover Patrick Young's blog, look forward to reading more entries. Perhaps I'll visit Green-Wood Cemetery today where so many Union and even some Confederate dead are interred. Thanks, Mr. Young
