Nearly 1,000 swimmers donned goggles and swim caps for a good cause in Amsterdam … and that’s where our Geo Quiz takes us.

The swimmers dove in (all were first required to get tetanus shots) and swam along Amsterdam’s famous canals.

“The major Dutch canals in Amsterdam are the Prinsengracht, the Keizersgracht, the Herengracht, and the Singel. We also have the Amstel which is a big one. I can switch to rivers if you want,” says Marc Terrhaar, organizer Amsterdam City Swim.

Hold off on the rivers, we just want you to name one of Amsterdam’s main canals.

It’s one of the widest. The Emperor’s Canal is named after a Holy Roman Emperor.

It served as the finish line for Sunday’s Amsterdam City Swim. Can you name it?

Marc Ter Haar was among the one thousand swimmers who jumped into the urban waters of the Amsterdam canals.

He says a highlight was seeing thousands of supporters lining the canals and bridges to cheer on the swimmers.

The swimmers included Dutch Princess Maxima who wore an orange swim cap as she swam to support the efforts to raise money for medical research to battle ALS, Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Some 1,000 swimmers made their way to the “finish line” on the Keiszersgracht Canal, or the Emperor’s Canal, the answer the Geo Quiz.
