Undulatus Asperatus: Say it Loud, it’s a New Cloud

Cloud-spotters around the world are calling for a ‘new’ kind of cloud to be recognized.

Undulatus asperatus, says Britain’s Cloud Appreciation Society is a cloud variant that, until recently, had gone unnoticed.

If accepted by the international body that governs cloud classification, it will take its place in a lineage that dates back to the 1800s.

We want to see your best cloud pictures. Post them in the comments below.

These may not be the right type. This was during a tornado warning. A smaller, more choppy, undulating type came before.

I took this picture while working at Addison Airport(KADS) in Addison, Texas. November 2011. I still haven’t been able to find an explanation for this formation! I’m a certified storm chaser , but I can definitely say I haven’t seen anything like this before or ever since!!! Cliff_Lopez@yahoo.com. KEEP UP THE GREAT PROGRAMMING!

I think I’ve seen undulatus asperatus when I lived in Texas. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it here in Sudbury, Ontario.
