Rob Ford, the mayor of Toronto, has been ordered out of office. Ford, who has courted controversy since his election in 2010, was found by a judge to have flouted conflict of interest rules.

The case stems from Ford’s refusal to repay funds that he solicited for his high school football team when he was a city councilman.

The ruling is set to take effect in two weeks. For his part, Ford blamed “left wing politics,” and said he would appeal to ruling.

We hear more from Lorrie Goldstein of The Toronto Sun newspaper.

As a Torontonian listening to your interesting program while soaking up some warm rays on Waikiki Beach I was dismayed by your choice of a ‘neutral’ commentator regarding the trials and tribulations of Toronto’s excuse of a mayor. You might as well have chosen the Mayor’s brother and partner-in-crime and City Counsel Member Doug Ford who is at par with his brother for garnering negative headlines regarding shady deals and outright disregard for the democratic process.
Choosing a member of the Toronto Sun News Group, which is partly responsible for the Mayor’s election win through more than questionable journalism, I wonder why you didn’t contact a fellow public radio journalist  (CBC) for a more neutral take on the situation.
P.S. The Toronto Sun recently launched Canada’s version of Fox News Channel which actually managed to put Fox in the neutral zone by comparison.

I completely agree with the above comment. I have a large number of friends in Canada, many of them residents of Toronto, and universally they have loathed Rob Ford. He’s been an embarrassment for the city and the nation at large. The celebration of his ouster has been echoed all over Twitter and Facebook for days. It behooved your program to have spoken with people who welcome his removal, not a pundit for his abhorrent administration and agenda. It’s easy to see how he got elected: a millionaire who bought his office. Now focus on how the city will elevate itself from the pointlessly regressive policies of Rob Ford.

This mayor and his brother are bullies and goons – look at this story just posted today about how they screamed threats at city councilors about projects they knew nothing about: http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/1295752—i-ll-whip-both-your-asses-rob-ford-says-to-councillors
