Norwegian Kicker Havard Rugland Gets Look from NY Jets After YouTube Video Goes Viral

Norwegian kicker Havard Rugland posted a video to YouTube in September that was sure to draw attention.

In it, Rugland demonstrates a clear knack for kicking long distance field goals at 60 yards.

Not only that, Rugland adds a distinct flare by kicking with what appears to be dead-on accuracy at any number of targets, some from seemingly impossible angles. My favorite, a kick from an idyllic Norwegian beach to a friend waiting on the bluff above.

As word spread online of Rugland, his video went viral and now has more than 1 million views.

It is an amazing video, but you have to question whether it took multiple takes to get those awe inspiring kicks. My suspicions of a master iMovie provocateur were put aside when, in near real time, Rugland plants six, 50 yard field goals in a row (just speed up to about 2:45).

Now, Rugland has gotten a different kind of attention.

Spurred by the video, Rugland has now had a workout with the New York Jets according to his kicking coach.

Take a look at the video to see why he might just end up playing in the NFL. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how Rugland’s kicking talents match up with an NFL defensive line.

UPDATE: We got a chance to speak with Harvard Rugland and featured the conversation in our Geo Quiz segment. Have a listen below.

Hello Steven… complete fake.    Look at the clouds: everytime, just right before he is to kick, the ever moving clouds STOP for a split second and continue moving after the ball passes the posts… it’s a nice try to get Havard, his agent and his kicking coach some 5 mins of fame.

the clouds speed up when he is fast forwarding,  when he is kicking they move slower cuz its at real time

A few parts of the video are sped up to avoid the monotony of watching a ball being set up.

There is also someone walking in he background, who speeds up as the clouds do, and then take the real pace … It’s real

This guy can be a kicker OR a punter.  Take your pick!

Why fake it to get a try-out? Not even the Jets are dumb enough to fall for a video if the guy can’t deliver the goods.
