Quite a switch from not allowing religious education at all in the Soviet era. I wonder if maybe the parents didn't select Othodox because they figure their kids will get that at church already? Plus if one remembers history, Stalin tried to use the Church for his own motives so I can see where there may be some distrust. As an Orthodox Christian myself, I'm not sure I'd want secularist teaching my religion to my kids when a priest, priest's wife, monk, nun or parents would do a much better job...or better still, just living it is the best lesson.

Which particular aspect of Russian history would lead anyone to believe that a secular ethics class will help solve "the problem of morality" in Russia? Wasn't the entire Communist experiment a failed attempt to solve society's problems through secularism?
