In response to the teacher's comment at the end....it would really be great if these kids had benefitted from good bilingual programs when in the US. It is of great value to be bilingual and bi-literate - for American kids as well.

Why is it that Mexico DEMANDS that the US give "amnesty" to all the 12-15 million "guests" here yet they cannot even accomidate the 13,000 that have returned to Mexico? A bit lopsided as usual. Just as they DEMAND certain rights for their "guests" here, but do not do the same for all the Central American "guests" in their country. Do as we say NOT as we do?

Technically, they are BOTH U.S. and Mexican citizens, just as a child born in Mexico to parents with U.S. citizenship would also have dual citizenship.

Many of the children featured in your piece are American regardless of their parents immigrant status.

All children born in the U.S. are U.S citizens by birth.

I wish your piece had made this clearer.
