The gang rape in India has refocused interest in women’s rights and gender quality.

One place those issues are showing up are in political cartoons.

I spoke to Marco Werman about why.

It appears that male cartoonists jump at the opportunity to ridicule women in guise of criticizing the official oppressors of women.  Demeaning representations of women’s bodies are no way to dignify the image of women in support to their claim to human rights. Once again world-wide attention to one – just one - cruel and fatal attack on a woman becomes just another excuse for exploitation.

Gang Rape is life in prison. It is so damaging as to be close to murder.

No. Gang rape should be ‘death penalty’ in India at least.  I just can’t have a rapist getting his sweet sleep, 3 meals a day in prison. Not good enough.  Death Penalty is a really good deterrent at least for a massive Indian male population. With the LAW in place, all the crazy bastards will keep their testosterone in check.
