How do you take your bourbon?

UPDATE:
After thousands of bourbon drinkers voiced their complaints about the announcement from Maker’s Mark, the company has reversed its decision and has jettisoned plans to dilute their recipe.

Global demand for bourbon is way up. So much so that the bourbon distiller, Maker’s Mark, announced that it must dilute its recipe to keep up with this global demand.

With this new global interest in the classic American spirit, we were wondering how people drink their bourbon around the world. Ice or no ice? With Coke? Lemonade or perhaps mint?

Personally, I take MY bourbon with some sweet vermouth, a dash of Angostura bitters, shaken with ice and strained into a chilled Martini glass with a cherry,  Ahhhhhhh.

I take it the same way, but finish it off with a ribbon of orange peel.

I like it with a splash of cold water and a twist of lemon. Of course a Perfect Manhattan made  with bourbon is a treat for special occasions.

hate to tell this bourbon blogger guy, but bourbon is only made in Bourbon County, Kentucky. Jack Daniels is WHISKEY. Evan Williams and Jim Beam are Straight Bourbon Whiskeys. Bourbon is just like champagne, you can only call it true champagne, if it comes from the champagne region of france. If you’re going to report on a bourbon shortage, please understand what BOURBON really is.

Sue, that is not true. Jack Daniel’s is not bourbon because they filter it over charcoals before aging in a barrel. Bourbon can be legally made anywhere in the U.S. as long as other guidelines of the law are followed. Bardstown, KY is not even in Bourbon County. It is in Nelson County. Garrison Bros is a fine bourbon made in Texas. Wikipedia has a nice overview of bourbon.

One of my favorite points of the law is that bourbon can only be cut with water. Many Scotch, Irish and Canadian whiskies (eys) have food colorings and flavorings added.

Maker’s 46 on the rocks for me please.

With a strong ginger beer and a tablespoon of Vermont’s finest maple syrup over ice with a lemon!

With Newman’s Own Limeade (gotta be Newman’s), and soda water.

will customers of maker’s mark change the way they take their bourbon now that it’s diluted? or would they switch to making their own if they have a copper whiskey still to distill alcohol with?
