Mamphela Ramphele says her new party will challenge the ruling African National Congress in next year’s elections.

    Good luck to Mamphela Ramphele! South Africa needs someone to break the ANC’s grip on power and the blatant corruption that goes with it. It is however disheartening to hear (at least as reported here) how prejudiced the larger population is to intellectuals (even those who rose out of poverty), that’s hardly a good sign. It is also to a lesser degree, an issue that we sadly face here in the US among segments of our population as well.
